The Everest Region landslide has caused major disruption along the trail from Namche Bazaar to Jorsalle, one of the most scenic yet vital parts of the Everest trekking route.

Due to continuous rainfall, large sections of the path have collapsed, leaving hundreds of trekkers stranded and prompting urgent safety warnings.

The Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) has advised all travelers to avoid the main trail and instead use an alternate upper route until conditions stabilize.

Recent landslides and heavy rain have made parts of the Everest trekking route unsafe. This update shares the latest TAAN advisory, safety tips, and how you can still enjoy your trek safely through the upper route.

What Happened? Sudden Weather Changes Cause Problems

According to BBC reports, more than 1,000 trekkers have been stranded in the Everest region in TAR China after sudden weather shifts triggered heavy rain, rockfalls, and multiple landslides.

Local guides report that several parts of the trail between Namche Bazaar and Jorsalle have completely given way, making them unsafe for passage. Rescue teams and community volunteers are working to help trapped trekkers and stabilize the situation.

Important: If you are currently trekking or planning to start your Everest Base Camp Trek, please delay your departure or reroute through safer alternatives.

TAAN Issues Important Safety Warning

The Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) has officially warned all trekkers and trekking companies about the dangers along the Namche–Jorsalle route.

TAAN's Official Notice Says:

"The main trail between Namche Bazaar and Jorsalle has been damaged by landslides. Trekkers are strongly advised to use the upper alternate trail, located around 200–300 meters above the usual route, until the area is restored and declared safe."

This warning is very important for anyone planning their Everest Base Camp Trek or Gokyo Valley Trek. The damaged section is on one of the most popular and frequently used paths in the whole region.

The Safer Route: Use the Upper Alternate Trail

The good news is there’s still a way forward. The upper mule trail runs about 200–300 meters above the main path. It’s steeper and takes more time, but guides say it is safe and already in use.

Important Steps All Trekkers Must Follow:

  • Always listen to and follow the guidance from local guides and check TAAN updates regularly
  • Ask about trail conditions before you leave Namche Bazaar
  • Plan for extra trekking time because the detour will take longer
  • Never travel alone when the weather is unstable or bad

Why Is This Route Dangerous Right Now?

The trail connecting Namche Bazaar and Jorsalle has experienced major landslides that have made the ground unstable and blocked the paths. The rain keeps falling, which makes these conditions even worse. This increases the chance of accidents and makes it very difficult for rescue teams to help people who get into trouble.

When the ground is wet and soft like this, more landslides can happen at any time without warning. Rocks can fall from above, and the trail itself might collapse while people are walking on it. This is why experts say it's too risky to use this section right now.

Important Safety Tips for All Trekkers

DO NOT attempt to cross the damaged section between Namche and Jorsalle under any circumstances. Your life is more valuable than saving time.

If you’re already in the Everest region or preparing your trip:

  • Do not attempt to cross the damaged Namche–Jorsalle section.
  • Stay updated through TAAN, Nepal Tourism Board, or your trekking agency.
  • Ensure your insurance covers rescue and evacuation in high-altitude regions.
  • Carry waterproof gear and satellite communication tools for safety.
